This album is a reflection on travel and the powerful perspective it offers. Whether by choice or out of necessity, a journey to the unknown can unlock a deeper sense of empathy and a greater appreciation for home. Like the overview effect experienced by astronauts staring back at Earth, it is precisely life’s fragility and transience that makes it all the more precious. How will we spend our few trips round the bend?

Railroads loom large in my family history, as both of my grandfathers were train men. The album photography, taken by the inimitable Bill Wadman, was staged on the freight tracks that cut through Forest Park in Queens, NY.
